Not being a graphic designer, this project was a fun challenge... How to define myself in vinyl...
Having no idea what kind of imagery to begin with, I did a quick brainstorm session, writing down words and themes that resonate with me:
Nature was a big theme!
Keep in mind these are simply concepts. I will have to do some further work to adapt them for the vinyl cutter, considering negative space vs. positive, simplicity and graphical impact. So heregos...
Being a fan of nature, camping, animals and also ALWAYS having a stack of books by my bedside, I thought it would be fun to find a way to in corporate all these things into one. Turning this into a vinyl cut would present some design challenges, but I think it could be done:
I'm a big fan of travel, especially a good road trip. So I had this idea to incorporate an image of a classic Winnebago(also being a fan of all things retro), and inverted the 'W' to create an 'M' for my last name:
I like crows a lot. They may be noisy but they are intelligent. So this design symbolizes my love of nature, home, wildlife... I've always dreamt of having a cabin in the woods like this one:
Also, a cabin right about here would suit me just fine. The mountains are modelled after the Three Sisters in Canmore. Obviously more work is needed to turn this into a proper design for the vinyl cutter - like what elements remain solid and which become outlined - but it's a start:
This gal is a dreamer, always with her head in the clouds. Not unlike me...
My design, but the idea came from a favourite tattoo artist of mine.
Another travelling/road trip/camping concept. A cozy mouse inside reading a book. I've always wanted a Boler trailer which is what this design is modelled after:
I drew the outer shape for this, not knowing what I was going to do with it, and immediately it reminded me of an airplane window. This concept could be used for so many things such as places I've travelled in the world. But for this one I went with a simple prairie landscape - where I grew up.
Here's another play on the mountain landscape and my cabin in the woods. I put it inside a bell jar to symbolize my love of collecting things(I have a pretty rad rock collection). In this case, collecting dreams?
Home sweet home. I love my little house, and all my plants. The moon is a symbol for nature and fills in the space nicely. This might be the most simple design so far and easiest to adapt for a vinyl cut:
